I get asked a lot how I started photography, how I wanted to be a portrait photographer. I love this question. I get to explain to my clients and friends all the time why I wanted to photographing families and babies. The reason is simple. I grew up with my father always taking photos of my siblings and I. We have picture albums that fill up entire shelves in the basement of pictures of us growing up. I flip through them almost monthly, sometimes to look for a good #tbt (throwback Thursday) or just to see my baby pictures again, sometimes it was for school projects and sometimes its for inspiration. My parents only seldom took us to JCPenney or Sears for "professional" pictures, so all of our pictures in the albums are us growing up in the same house just with older wallpaper. Most of the pictures are candids or just daily life photos. I saw my dad's love for photography and I took it as my own. I cherish what cameras do for us. They allow us to remember a time and a memory.
The newborn photographed below won't always be this size or this sleepy. In fact, we probably can't pose her today the same way we did two weeks ago. That moment has passed, but the photos will stay with her family for a lifetime. And one day she will be able to look back at her newborn photos and see all the details of her tiny little fingers and toes and how beautiful she was as a newborn.
