Eliza's 6 month session baby session

Chicago Baby Photography

Let me tell you, this couple is beautiful! They were so  easy going with my props and my crazy ideas :) I do love my props. Oh man, this little girl is just adorable. She had the biggest smile (when she wanted to smile hehe) And she looked so cute in my vintage stroller. The story behind the stoller : I found it for $10. Not kidding! I found it at a nearby Rummage sale and I fell in love with it! Who in their right mind would sell a beautiful blue vintage stroller thats in perfect condition for so little??  Well, I wasn't about to ask questions...the sale was about to be over in 5 minutes and there wasn't a minute to delay! The only problem was my mom had the cash on her and she walked into a different room! So I stayed at the edge of the room calling out for her down the hall.  Once she arrived she knew what I was so excited about and wasn't as thrilled as I was. She didn't have to say anything, I could see it on her face. But it grew on her and now its one of her favorite props of mine. And I am so glad I was finally able to use it.

Has anyone else noticed how unbearable the misquotes are this summer? In our backyard garden alone has swarms of them that rise when you enter through the gate.  During this session, we had to stop once in awhile to shoo away the misquotes. I find new bites on me driving home from every outdoor session. *big sigh* So guess what I did just today? I brought "Bug Off" bug repellent! Best invention ever! (Well I am sure there are better ones than bug repellent) Nevertheless, I did not find any new bites!

I'm pretty happy about that :)

From the Chicago Family Photographer

I just adore this family. They are wonderful. This session was perfect. Of course, the weather was a tab bit hot ( This summer wasn't as bad as last year though!) We managed to get some great photos. These kinds of sessions get me excited for more and more sessions! I love photographing peoples expressions. The beautiful and wonderful expressions that make you, you!  I remember photographing this couples maternity session about a year ago. I had no idea that a year later I would still be photographing them! How blessed am I?!

Anyways, nothing really exciting is happening in my personal life. Just school, and my photography business. I guess thats exciting enough! What makes me happy is being able to use my props on sessions that I have been waiting to use and finally get a chance to. Like this little bed in the photos. I found it from Savers for $3 and I was so excited to use it! Also, the 2 vintage dresses Molly has on are mine. I found them for $2 each. I fell in love with all of these props. What a pretty location to utilize them with! Molly was a good sport trying on my dresses. Doesn't that Ivy on the side of that building look just absolutely amazing?? I wish I could live in that building. It over looks a beautiful lake. My clients wanted to meet there and I am so glad they did! What a neat area. I wonder what that Ivy will look like in the fall season?? Hmm....any takers for a fall family session at this location? Id love to revisit it!

A Chicago Newborn Photographer

The other day I photographed this beautiful newborn only 4 days old. Her name is Olivia Sophia. I started working with this family 1 year ago. We were photographing their engagement session. How crazy time flies. I have had the privilege of getting to know the parents really well. They are both wonderful people who I am glad to say are my friends. I have photographed their engagement, wedding, maternity and now newborn photos. They have been so good to me! This is what I have always wanted...Someone that truly loves my work that they keep coming back. Its more than just a compliment, its everything to me. Its the support, the love, the friendships and the bond we now will always have.

Thats the thing about this business...its not just about taking photos of random clients. Its growing relationships with people that you work for and loving every minute of it! And then hoping that the people you work for, will love you for that.

I also wanted to announce that I have been incredibly blessed with all of my clients and I am almost completely booked for weekend dates for the fall season! So if you are wanting a fall family session or any children sessions, we will have to start looking at our weekdays on our calendars. I am thrilled to have my calendar look full! Its the biggest blessing. I am so thankful for my clients and friends. Its the biggest compliment to have so many returning clients and for them to send me all of their friends.

Another big thing happening in my life...I started running again...I have been pretty active all of my 21 years of life but the past two years since Ive held onto 2 jobs at once, stayed in school full time and ran a photography business... well there just wasn't a lot of time devoted to *que big ugh and sigh* ....running....    -_-

In all honesty, I love the way running makes me *afterwards*, actually I just ran tonight and now I feel great. The run itself wasn't terrible. It was partly raining and there was a nice breeze.. I was never a long distance runner. I don't know how to pace myself. When I was younger I would feel myself wanting to sprint desperately at the end of each run. Now I know better not to sprint at the end or I might pass out! I feel so out of shape, I really need to get myself back into working out. So today, I swam at the College of Dupage indoor pool and then tonight I ran. I believe over 2 miles :)

Someone please be proud of me for that!

I got to photograph the most wonderful 7 day old!

Aren't newborn sessions so wonderful? The newborns (normally) sleep throughout the whole 2-3 hours I am at the clients home. The babies look so peaceful and dreamy. I could cuddle them all day! Maybe one day Ill have my own newborns to cuddle someday. Nevertheless, I love all newborns and wish I could work with them all! Chicago is pretty big I know! But wouldn't be amazing if I could photograph at least 1000 newborns a year? I think I would happy with that many .

This past week, I photographed a birth story. I was quite nervous about it. To be honest with you, I was more nervous about not getting to the hospital on time or not be able to get there altogether than the actual birth. I was worried that the mom would call me in the middle of the night and I would be sleeping peacefully and not hear my phone! Oh, my nerves really got to me these past couple of weeks. If you saw me, I was probably on edge! I didn't want to travel much around the suburbs so I stayed at home editing my most recent sessions... then I would take breaks and *try* knitting bonnets. So far I have been crocheting bonnets for newborns but now Im on to knitting.. Anyways, while I was knitting, I was also watching all of the Jane Austen movies. Yes, I probably should have read the books but this way I was able to knit and listen/watch the movie at the same time. When I was bored of that, well... school started as well this past week so I wrote a paper that was due Friday.. Ha. My clients baby was due this past Friday.. but had the baby girl on monday! And guess what?? She had her in the afternoon and the delivery was 1  1/2 hours long...incredible! We were lucky to have made it to the hospital at all! I am so glad to have been there and see this birth.. and all the while photograph it as well. It was an amazing experience and I hope to photograph more birth stories in the future <3

Julianna's 1 year baby session

This family <3 Love seeing my returning clients any chance I get. I feel like we have this wonderful bond when I meet with a family more than once. As if...they loved my work so much that they wanted to see me again. Its just a good feeling for me.

Whats not that great of a feeling....I started school this week. Ugh! It feels as if school will NEVER end. Honestly, I work and work and work and then...I start another semester. All new classes, new teachers, new faces. This used to be so exciting. I wish I still felt that way. The only thing that made starting school a little bit more worth my time this week was the little fact that pumpkin spice lattes came back this tuesday at Starbucks. Could I be anymore cliche? Im so #whitegirlstatus and for those who are reading this and are confused... well lets just say its a very common drink for caucasian  girls to love. Just like all girls love the fall season and wearing Ugg boots. (Which I shamefully do as well) I don't regret any of these choices. Another thing that might not be as common as PSL and loving fall... Just this past week I started teaching myself how to knit. I have been crocheting for at least a year by now. I wanted to learn a different technique to make newborn bonnets, so I watched a simple youtube video on how to cast on and it was so easy! This is the link if anyone dares to try it themselves :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWJQvsZ6kT0

Im not an expert at knitting, in fact...Ill have to watch another youtube video on how to cast off! At least, thats what I think the term is to finish up whatever I am knitting! Who knows, it might not even end up looking like a bonnet. I should post a photo of what it ends up looking like when Im finished and we can all have a good laugh.

Until next time,

Abigail Joyce
